| Gitanjali Marilyn Valant | |||||||
|
Gitanjali Marilyn Valant first discovered yoga 25 years ago in one of the sports clubs in Manhattan. It was Hatha Yoga. The same year she met Sri Chinmoy, her first spiritual master, and He introduced her to meditation. Soon after that she became a vegetarian and at the same time started to run. So far, she has completed 8 (eight) NYC Marathons, and 2 (two) 47-mile Races, also in 1991 she ran in a Peace Run in Europe for 30 days. Shortly after discovering Hatha Yoga, Marilyn came across a class at her Gym, given by a new teacher, Lea. It was Marilyn’s first taste of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. She fell in love with this type of yoga and started to practice it religiously. In 1996 she went on a trip around the world, including India, with a backpack, visiting all the sacred places she could find, looking for God, looking for answers to her many questions. A year later in 1997 at Lea’s recommendation Marilyn went upstate New York to visit the Siddha Yoga ashram. She met the Guru, Gurumayi, and received Shaktipat from Her. From that moment on, Marilyn’s life changed. It became a conscious practice of the Truth. Her spiritual journey, her Sadhana, began and her daily practices of yoga and meditation were steady and permanently in her schedule. After 9/11 she moved Upstate New York, to the Catskills and in 2005, she taught her beloved Kundalini Yoga for the first time. In 2005/06 she completed her Kundalini Yoga Teachers Certification Program, Level 1 and a few months later she went to India again, this time to continue her training as a teacher, with Level 2 Teachers Training Program. Soon she started teaching Yoga in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Upstate New York, where she now has her own Kundalini Yoga Studio, the Sat Nam Yoga Spa. |
